Digital Imaging – Photo Montage Plan and Final

For this project in Digital Imaging, we were told to take at least 10 individual photos and to manipulate them in Adobe Photoshop to make a create a new image with a message behind it. For my image, I wanted to create a Kiwi bird amalgamation made of various pieces of trash emerging from between two dumpsters. The images above feature the plan I made for this project, the first draft of the photo montage, and the final product that resulted from critique in class. This was my first major jump in using Photoshop and I feel that the product turned out just how I wanted it to.

Artist Statement for the Plan

My transformation is a modification to create a kiwi bird made out of everyday objects. The objects that I plan to include in my photo collage are mostly average objects you could find daily or find in the trash. The kinds of images I will use are photos of objects I currently possess which I will combine to emulate the shape and appearance of a kiwi bird. The sketch I want to base my montage on is my third sketch titled, “Trash Kiwi” because I feel that I could transition it into a photo collage better than my other two sketches. I made my work in the lens of surrealism by making a surprising image with non-living objects that have conglomerated to create a living being.

Artist Statement for Photo Montage Final

The transformation I am attempting to emulate is a modification to create a kiwi bird made out of everyday objects set inside of an alleyway with two dumpsters. I attempt to show how even the simplest of everyday objects can create a being with a mind of its own. The objects that I include in my photo collage are average items you could easily find daily or in the trash. The kinds of images I used are photos of objects I currently possess which will combine to emulate the shape and appearance of a kiwi bird. The sketch I based my montage on is my third sketch titled, “Trash Kiwi” because I feel that I transitioned into a photo collage better than my other two sketches due to my low experience in Photoshop. I photographed the images myself in order to create a more realistic creation rather than using images that allow modification from online. The only unrealistic section I added to my image are pupils set inside of the scissors to show life. I made my work in the lens of surrealism by making a surprising image with non-living objects that have conglomerated to create a living being exiting it’s living space.
