For this project, we were told to explore an aspect of identity for both the vector portrait and a digital painting using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop (respectively). The above images (in-order) are my digital painting plan (featuring 3 different ideas for my project), the first draft of my digital painting, and the final product for my digital painting project.
Artist Statement for Digital Painting Plan
The aspect I plan to show in my digital painting is the busyness of the thoughts in my mind, with each seemingly fighting to see which one to be prioritized. My digital painting expands the concept of my vector drawing by physically showing the “arguments” that my thoughts have in order to be the most important. The thoughts I have all seemingly appear at once, which in turn causes my mind to try and multitask each and every thought. My diptych shows balance by keeping the complicated hair and I plan to keep the green background with squiggles. The diptych also shows contrast by going in a more stylized route rather than keeping it only abstract, while also being more up and in your face rather than a mid view of the body. The images I will use are thought bubbles with my little versions of myself arguing with each other to show how my mind arguing with itself is confusing even to me. I plan to use my third sketch to base my digital painting on because it felt easier to express rather than my other sketches which just use my hair as parts that go off as squiggles, which I felt was a weak element.
